Why Next.js 15?

At Floures Technologies, we've been building with Next.js since version 12. With the release of Next.js 15, the framework has matured into the most powerful React meta-framework available today.

Server Components by Default

One of the biggest paradigm shifts is React Server Components (RSC). Components render on the server by default, which means:

  • Smaller JavaScript bundles sent to the client
  • Faster initial page loads with streaming HTML
  • Direct database access from components without API layers
  • Better SEO with server-rendered content

The App Router Advantage

The App Router brings a modern, file-system based routing approach:

app/
├── layout.tsx          # Shared layout
├── page.tsx            # Home page
├── blog/
│   ├── page.tsx        # Blog listing
│   └── [slug]/
│       └── page.tsx    # Individual blog post

Each route segment can have its own layout, loading state, and error boundary, making it trivial to build complex UIs with excellent user experience.

Performance Patterns We Use

1. Streaming with Suspense

Instead of waiting for all data to load, we stream HTML as it becomes available:

import { Suspense } from 'react'

export default function Dashboard() {
  return (
    <div>
      <h1>Dashboard</h1>
      <Suspense fallback={<ChartSkeleton />}>
        <RevenueChart />
      </Suspense>
      <Suspense fallback={<TableSkeleton />}>
        <RecentOrders />
      </Suspense>
    </div>
  )
}

2. Image Optimization

Next.js's <Image> component with automatic AVIF/WebP conversion has reduced our average image payload by 60% across client projects.

3. Edge Middleware

For global applications, we deploy middleware at the edge for:

  • Authentication checks
  • A/B testing
  • Geolocation-based routing
  • Rate limiting

Results We've Seen

After migrating a client's e-commerce platform to Next.js 15:

  • Core Web Vitals: LCP improved from 4.2s to 1.1s
  • Bundle size: Reduced by 43%
  • Conversion rate: Increased by 18%
  • Time to Interactive: Under 2 seconds on 3G

Getting Started

If you're considering Next.js for your next project, we recommend starting with the App Router from day one. The learning curve is worth the architectural benefits.
